Love Your Body Day 5 – Give Yourself Some Credit!

7 Days to Love the Skin You're In Love Your Body Day 5

It’s only coincidence that I’m watching Sex and the City reruns while writing this post. Do any of you remember the episode where Samantha talks about getting breast implants? Well, when Samantha starts to tell Carrie and Charlotte why she wants them, she says, “As you know I’ve always loved my body just the way it is. My legs are fantastic. I have killer abs. My a$$ is perfection.” If only she stopped there!!

It’s so easy for us to look at ourselves and see what we don’t like. Even though she loved her body as a whole, she got temporarily caught up in the idea of having bigger boobs. We laugh at this because we know it’s ridiculous. I mean, hello, she’s stunning! But, we all do this to ourselves every day!

I want you to concentrate on what IS working. On Day 1, we listed out five things that we love about our bodies. Today, come up with a list of five things you did today (or maybe yesterday if you’re reading this early on in the day) that you feel proud of. Again, start small. For instance, did you brush your teeth today? Take a shower? These may seem like trivial habits, but they are something! Imagine if you didn’t do them on a regular basis, if they weren’t habitual. They’ve become part of your routine because they keep you healthy and make you feel good. This can be done with exercise and eating vegetables too! By no means does your list need to concentrate on things you’ve done for your physical health. It could be something you did at work, for your mental health, or to improve a relationship. Did you smile at a stranger? Communicate your needs to your partner? Turn in a project you’re really proud of at work? Check a few errands of your list?

  1. Great idea! It is so easy to see our failures but we do a lot well in the day too. My biggest success for the day so far was not to be selfish of my time. I had a lot to do today, but there were some people I needed to spend time with and have conversation. I was able to do that without frantically watching the clock making sure they knew how busy I was. Sounds horrible to be like that, but I have been when I didnt want to be there. But not today! And guess what? Im still getting done what I needed to.

  2. I like this idea of writing down things you’re proud of. It’s nice to end the day with some positivity, so here it goes:

    Today, I’m proud of:
    1. Finally starting my work-out routine by walking for 30 minutes.
    2. Eating a bowl of fruit salad this morning, when I craved for a snack.
    3. Doing a brain game with both if my doggies, for the second day in a row.
    4. Keep up with my daily doodles.
    5. Creating an awesome Valentine gift for my boyfriend.

Thank you! Too many times I focus on what I didn’t do in a day. Today wasn’t any different. Now I’m actually headed for bed with a smile on my face. 🙂

  3. Love that episode of SATC! It’s so important to give yourself credit- I’ve had a much perspective on my body since giving birth to my daughter eight months ago. It could have been very easy to beat myself up about my post-baby imperfections, but instead I chose to celebrate the success I’ve had and to above all else be healthy!

  4. If I’m understanding you correctly,
    1. Love how into my cardio boxing I get, even though I know I look ridiculous.
    2. Don’t care that I’m not wearing cute workout clothing. I’m there to work out, not win a fashion contest.
    3. Dance around the house to whatever Pandora station I’m listening to (husband is amused by this).
    4. Seeing the difference in my abdominal area when I cut out sugar for a few days and the swelling goes down. (Sugar causes intestinal inflammation if you didn’t know that.)
    5. Enjoying a good book on the treadmill. Started a new one yesterday that has me laughing really hard.
