The poor holiday season gets such a bad rap from the fitness industry. Between warnings of holiday weight gain and pressure to not give in to temptation, it's no wonder so many people find themselves either completely stressed out trying to stay "on track" or ditching their health and fitness goals for a month of bloat and guilt. The holidays should be exciting and fun. A time where you can dedicate more time to friends and family, enjoy your moms famous pies, and drink champagne while laughing until you cry with your besties. NOT a season to turn down party invites because it may ruin your "diet" or an excuse to eat every sweet in sight. If you've been in
It seems like the older I get, the more I feel I don't know. As most of you are aware, I've battled knee injuries since May. A self-proclaimed fitness influencer, I've questioned my expertise during recovery. It's been 7 months since I've been able to run, squat, lunge, or jump. If you haven't noticed, these exercises made up the bulk of my workouts. The physical pain has been limited, but the emotional turmoil has been strong. I know this issue is insignificant compared to what so many people are suffering through. But I've felt a loss of identity and a rush of anxiety because of it. I've been "that fit girl" for so long that I feel like I'm not
If you’re a busy #bossbabe (which I believe you are!), then you know how conquering the world can be overwhelming. From deadlines, mommy duties, fitness goals, to relationships, we can have a lot on our plate. If you’ve read this blog before, you know I refer to a phrase my dad taught me in high school, “Stress is optional.” Trust me when I say sometimes this is SO much easier to say than done. There are moments (admittedly frequent moments), where I feel totally in over my head. Don’t believe me? Ask my blessedly patient boyfriend and family (thanks mom and dad for always answering my calls lol)! There are a number of ways to cope with stress and anxiety.
You know what's scary? Thinking you need to spend hours in the gym to get results. Not so scary? Toning your legs and lifting your booty in less than 30-minutes from wherever the heck you want to! The days are getting shorter and schedules are getting busier (and we aren't even to the holidays yet!). This means we need to make sure to take advantage of every minute of your workout. The best way to get a quick and effective workout in is with circuit training. Circuit training burns more calories than traditional strength training. Each exercise is completed back-to-back so it keeps your heart rate up while simultaneously toning your muscles. I promise, no tricks ;). Call me the
Ugh, I hate that word... "dieting." It literally has the word "die" in it! By no means do you need to "die-t" to lose weight. And, sorry to spill the beans, most of those d-word strategies end in the exact opposite - either stalling progress all together or setting you up for weight gain rebound. There are a couple other (more helpful) reasons I don't like the idea of a "diet." It assumes that the changes you're making will be temporary. It usually sets you up on a meal plan that SHOULD only be temporary. It asks you to includes absurd amounts of cardio or exercise in general. It sometimes includes some sort of "meal replacement," supplement, or magic pill.
